1. Introduction
Gira++ ("the App") is an independent, community-developed companion application for the Gira bike-sharing service in Lisbon, Portugal. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.
Important: Gira++ is not affiliated with EMEL, Camara Municipal de Lisboa, or the official Gira service. This is an independent third-party application.
2. Data We Collect
2.1 Location Data
- Precise Location: Used to show your position on the map and find nearby bike stations.
- Foreground use only: Location is used while you are actively using the App.
- Purpose: Essential for the core bike-sharing functionality.
2.2 Authentication Credentials
- Email and Password: Entered by you to log into your existing Gira/EMEL account.
- How we handle it: Your credentials are sent directly to EMEL's authentication servers. We do not store, log, or have access to your credentials. They are transmitted securely and never stored on our servers.
2.3 Usage Data
- Trip History: Retrieved from EMEL's servers and not stored by us.
- App Preferences: Stored locally on your device only.
3. Data We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect personal identification information.
- We do not track your behavior for advertising purposes.
- We do not share any data with third parties.
- We do not use analytics or tracking services.
- We do not store your login credentials.
4. How We Use Your Data

- All app preferences are stored locally on your device.
- No data is transmitted to or stored on our servers.
- Communication with EMEL servers uses secure HTTPS encryption.
- We do not operate any backend servers that store user data.
6. Third-Party Services
The App communicates with the following services:
- EMEL/Gira API: For authentication and bike station data, governed by EMEL's privacy policy.
- OpenStreetMap/MapLibre: For map display. No personal data is shared with us.
7. Your Rights (GDPR)
As an EU resident, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, export, or withdraw consent for personal data. Gira++ does not store your personal data on our servers. To exercise rights related to your Gira/EMEL account, contact EMEL directly.
To clear local app data, go to your device Settings, open Apps, select Gira++, and clear the app data.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
